Recording Modes and Hotkey Configuration
Configure how you start and stop recording with toggle or press-and-hold modes, and customize your global hotkeys.
Recording Modes
Vibe Typer supports two recording modes:
Toggle Mode
Press the hotkey once to start recording, press it again to stop. This is the default mode and works well for longer dictation sessions.
Press-and-Hold Mode
Hold the hotkey to record, release it to stop. This mode is ideal for quick, short dictation.
You can switch between modes in Settings.
Hotkey Configuration
Global Hotkey
The global hotkey activates recording from any application without switching windows. Configure it in Settings by clicking the hotkey field and pressing your desired key combination.
Cancel Hotkey
Press Escape during recording to cancel without inserting any text.
Repaste Hotkey
The repaste hotkey re-inserts the last transcription. This is useful if the text didn't land in the right place or you want to paste it again elsewhere.
macOS Note
On macOS, the fn (Globe) key can be used as a hotkey. Due to macOS system behavior, this key may briefly show the emoji picker — this is normal and does not affect recording.
