Magic Formatter: our own model, built just for cleaning up dictation
Magic Formatter is the step in Vibe Typer that turns how you talk into the text you meant to type. The new one is our own model, trained in-house just for cleaning up dictation, and you only get it in Vibe Typer.
It's far better at paragraphs and lists than our previous one. Most dictation apps clean up with an AI that writes text, which is how they end up rewording you or answering your question instead of typing it. Ours tidies your words and never writes new ones. It's now the default in Vibe Typer for Linux, Windows and Mac, including when you update.
The best model for cleaning up dictation
In a blind comparison across 2,400 dictations in 46 languages, the new Magic Formatter was picked three times as often as our previous Magic Formatter: 1,145 to 368, with 887 ties. The two versions were unlabelled.
Talk for a minute, get paragraphs back
In our tests, 97 in 100 long dictations came back in paragraphs.
On the 769 test dictations over 100 words, the new one was picked 453 times to 135 in the blind comparison.
Before and after
Four dictations from our testing, and what the new Magic Formatter typed.
Half a minute, in paragraphs
You said: Okay so I went through the new onboarding flow and overall it feels a lot cleaner. A few things though. The buttons are inconsistent, the primary button is blue on the first screen and green on the second, the font size on the helper text is too small, and the progress bar doesn't really tell you where you are. I also noticed the Figma. Figma file still has the old logo in the header. And the, uh, the Tailwind spacing looks off on mobile, I think it's the padding on the cards. Also can we try the dark mode toggle in the settings menu, the nav bar, and the footer? Those three are missing it.

The previous one typed it as one block. The new one made it three paragraphs, with the three problems as a list.
A correction, out loud
You said: Yeah, let mom know that we'll meet at 2 p.m. Sorry, I mean 3 p.m. And we'll see her then.
The new Magic Formatter: Yeah, let mom know that we'll meet at 3 p.m., and we'll see her then.
Our previous Magic Formatter: Yeah, let mum know that we'll meet at 3 pm. And we'll see her then.
Both dropped the wrong time. The previous one also changed mom to mum. The new one keeps the word you said.
The ums
You said: Hi Tom, just a quick note to say that, um, I'll be working from home tomorrow, uh, because the plumber is coming in the morning.
It typed: Hi Tom,
Just a quick note to say that I'll be working from home tomorrow because the plumber is coming in the morning.
One breath, three sentences
You said: can you send me the deck i need it before friday also tell sarah to bring the budget numbers to the meeting
It typed: Can you send me the deck? I need it before Friday. Also tell Sarah to bring the budget numbers to the meeting.
What it does
Press your hotkey, talk the way you normally would, and press it again. When you stop, Magic Formatter tidies what you said and Vibe Typer types it at your cursor, in any app.
- Drops ums, uhs, false starts and doubled words.
- Keeps only the correction when you change your mind out loud.
- Sets capitals, punctuation and paragraphs.
- Makes a list when you talk one through.
Talk through a list and you get a list
You said: Three things for the launch. First, finish the landing page. Second, record the demo video. Third, email the beta testers.
It typed: Three things for the launch:
- Finish the landing page.
- Record the demo video.
- Email the beta testers.
In our tests, it got 23 times as many spoken lists right as our previous Magic Formatter.
Ahead in 45 of the 46 languages we tested
That includes each of the 10 languages Vibe Typer users dictate in most: English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Russian, Polish, Dutch, Italian and Czech.
A third of a second for a short message
The new Magic Formatter formats a short message in about a third of a second, and a long one in about a second.
It can't hallucinate, by design
It tidies your words and never writes new ones, so it can't make up a sentence, answer your question instead of typing it, or reword you. It drops the ums and the part you corrected, and sets capitals, punctuation, paragraphs and lists.
Names, numbers, dates and times are never changed, and History shows every change it made, word by word.
No new words in 2,400 dictations
In 2,400 test dictations, our previous Magic Formatter added or reworded words in 420 of them, about 1 in 6. The new one added none.
Free on every plan
Magic Formatter is free on every plan, the Free plan included. It's on by default and never counts toward your AI operations. It runs in Vibe Typer on Mac, Windows and Linux, with no special PC needed.

Frequently asked questions
What does Magic Formatter do?
Magic Formatter is the step in Vibe Typer that turns how you talk into the text you meant to type. When you stop talking, it drops the ums, repeats and the part you corrected, sets capitals, punctuation, paragraphs and lists, and Vibe Typer types the result at your cursor. It is on by default and free on every plan.
How is it different from other dictation apps' clean-up?
Most dictation apps clean up with an AI that writes text, which is how they end up rewording you, adding words or answering your question instead of typing it. Vibe Typer's new Magic Formatter is our own model, built just for cleaning up dictation, so it tidies your words and never writes new ones: in 2,400 test dictations it added none. It's free on every plan and runs in Vibe Typer on Mac, Windows and Linux, with no special PC needed. Built-in AI dictation can need particular hardware: Windows' needs a Copilot+ PC and is English only, and Google's needs a Pixel 11. If you want clean-up that sticks to what you said, pick Vibe Typer.
